8 Places To Eat And Drink In New Orleans
We recently visited New Orleans for a wedding and tried to hit the hot spots in our short time there! We spent most of our time in the French Quarter, with Bourbon Street and the surrounding stunning streets of New Orleans being our main area.
Here are 8 spots in the area you should visit for some food or drinks!
1. Fritzels
This was by far our favourite spot in New Orleans as we just had so much fun. We stayed here for maybe an hour, but in this time we really got a feel for the New Orleans vibes! On one of the busiest streets in the area is Fritzels bar, which is a European Jazz Bar.
Whilst we were there we enjoyed the awesome Jazz music with a drink in hand and watched as some jazz music enthusiasts actually brought their instruments to the bar and joined in on the songs they knew right from their spot in the crowd! One by one, the band invited the talent from the crowd up to the stage to play with them – it was awesome.
2. The Will & The Way
This spot we walked into by accident but once we walked through to the back, we ended up loving it! The back area is a patio in the middle of a bunch of buildings and is a great outside hangout area to grab a drink. The ambiance is worth this visit for a late night drink.
3. Anna’s Bar
Whilst not right downtown, this place is an awesome dive bar with great drinks and a great late-night atmosphere. We came here after a wedding and spent the night on the second floor with a large group of people. Dive bars are a must-do in New Orleans!
4. Erin Rose
Looking for a great way to start your day in true New Orleans fashion? Look no further than a frozen Irish Coffee (with an extra shot of Jameson) to give a kick in your step! It was really busy but quick to get in an out – and its popular for a reason, our alcoholic iced-coffee to go was SO good.
5. St Johns
An upscale spot for some great New Orleans cuisine, St. Johns is a great creole restaurant. The street it is on is also a super cute street with so many good spots on it that gives you a great New Orleans feel. We ordered the Crawfish, Creole Beef Daube, and local fish dishes that were inspired by New Orleans many tastes.
6. Mr Ed’s Oyster Bar and Fish House
This place is a great chain restauarant to get your feel of the classic New Orleans food. There are a few locations in the area. Creole, Poboys, Alligator, the famous Hurricane drink, etc. If its a signature New Orleans dish, its probably here!
7. Big Easy Daquiris
These can actually be found all around the main streets, there are multiple locations for them. Its essentially a frozen daquiri machine bar with multiple options for flavours. The Hurricane is a New Orleans specialty flavour. We got a mix of the Hurricane and Peach Bellini and it was SO sugary in the best way possible.
Side note: If on Bourbon Street, you should definitely try a hand grenade – they are another New Orleans specialty. Frozen or on ice are both great.
8. Who Dat Coffee Cafe
Take out or dine in, you should go to Who Dat Coffee for a great brunch spot. We actually decided to take out some iced coffee, the BEST coffee cake, and breakfast sandwiches and they were all top notch. But after looking at the brunch menu we wished we had the time to stay for breakfast. They had a wide variety of meals with some New Orleans twists and some boozy brunch cocktails to start the day.
