Our Favourite Hikes From Around The World

If you’re an avid hiker you’ll know the feeling, but every time we travel to a new country we have to check out the hiking scene! Below you’ll find six hikes, all from six different countries! These are our absolute favourite hikes from countries we’ve visited around the world. The pictures alone just might convince you…

Kamnik Saddle, Kamnik Alps, Slovenia

This hike has us in constant awe! It was our first hike in Slovenia and immediately became one of our favourite hikes ever. A little technical but a fantastic introduction to all that Slovenia has to offer us, this hike was something else. You can do it as a day hike or as an overnight hike to the mountain hut – we highly recommend this mountain hut and you can even have your own double room. European mountain huts are no joke – with all the food / drinks you could need so you really don’t have to worry about anything.

This hike takes you from the Logar Valley (a truly stunning area to walk, drive, and stay in), through the forests, up to insane views points, and into some climbing areas that requires some caution before you get to the hut. Yes, the hut has beautiful views over the area, but honestly theres so many great views along the way that the hut won’t be your favourite one.

If you want more information about this hike, check out our blog post on the Kamnik Saddle hike that has all the details you should know before embarking on this highly recommended hike! Here is the All Trails link aswell.

Length: 8-9 km

Elevation: 1000m

Time: 4-6 hours (out & back)

Cabana Caraiman – Caraiman Peak, Busteni, Romania

Epic views and a technical route is what you’ll find on this hike. There will be some areas where there are steep drop offs and the requirement to hold tight onto the rope to secure yourself. The best part about this hike (besides the crazy view points) is the fact that theres a gondola to take you back down. But we don’t recommend taking the gondola both ways – you’ll miss the views along the way.

Here you’ll go through mountains and forests to get up to the final mountain top view. Our hike was extremely foggy so it was hard to see all the views, however when the fog briefly cleared up we got a glimpse of the fall coloured trees and steep drop offs in the area.

Best done in the fall time frame in Romania – this hike has some epic views made even more insane by the colours. If you wan’t to see many more pictures with much more information, read our blog post on our favourite hike in Romania here! Plus, heres the All Trails link for the hike.

Length: 13 km

Elevation: 1500 metres

Time: 6 – 8 hours, or 3 – 4 hours to reach the top.

Pouakai Tarns, Mt. Taranaki, New Zealand

This hike in New Zealand was one of our all time favourites – however, the weather really needs to be in your favour. We hiked up in the early afternoon with the sky FULL of clouds, and when we got up there, the clouds were still lingering. However, we were camping out for the night anyways and by the time sunset came around the clouds cleared up (mostly) and gave us these insane views. But then by morning the bad weather rolled right in and with the worlds worst sleep and the cloudiest and dampest weather ever, we headed back out in the morning with no more luck. But the sunset views were 100% worth the entire experience!

This hike takes you through stunning New Zealand forests, a wooden path almost the entire way which makes the path pretty easy, and incredible mountain views. You can opt to camp or stay at the mountain hut close to the tarns where the reflection of the mountain is something else.

Theres so much to know about this hike and you can read it all in our blog post here! Heres the All Trails information as well.

Length: 12-13 km

Elevation: 777 metres

Time: 4-6 hours (out and back)

Acropole Des Draveurs, Hautes-Gorges-de-la-Riviere-Malbaie National Park, Quebec, Canada

Canada! The land of stunning hikes! Quebec, if you didn’t already know, has some great outdoor hiking and activities PLUS in the fall the trees turn into one million different colours that make this hike even better (and it’s a rockstar hike even before the colours go crazy).

This hike is one of the most popular in the area, for good reason. Insane views over the valley and mountains plus three different vantage views or peaks make this place worth the hike.

We highly recommend a visit to this park and so many others in Quebec. Here is a blog post about all our favourite hikes in Quebec so you know exactly where to visit! And as always, heres the All Trails link.

Length: 10.5 km

Elevation: 875 metres

Time: 4-6 hours

Loch Avon, Cairngorms National Park, Scotland

Scotland has our hearts – and so does this hike! Although it was a long day climbing the second highest mountain in Scotland, navigating some cloudy and surprisingly snowy terrain, and climbing up the side of a waterfall – the views and environment made this hike stand out.

The middle of the hike (once you’ve passed the peak) is so quiet, it almost feels as if you’re in the middle of nowhere and you may just check your All Trails map 1 billion times to make sure you’re not absolutely lost (it feels like it!). You’ll pass lochs, MAYBE one or two other people, and feel like you’re in the middle of the Scottish highlands.

Plus, you get the added bonus of standing high above this loch with some unbelievable views before you have to navigate your way around the small river at the bottom to try and not get your feet wet.

Insane views and an incredible experience makes this hike one of our favourites. If you want more information on this hike, we have a whole blog post dedicated to this hike (because we really really love it). Plus, find the All Trails link here.

Length: 18.5 km

Elevation: 1,171 metres

Time: 5-7 hours (loop)

Loma Del Pligue, Patagonia, Argentina

This hike is found in Argentina in the famous region of Patagonia, but is less traversed than other hikes in the area. Whilst every other hike was packed with tourists, we ran into just a few other people on our way up to this peak. It’s a long hike with an insane journey, but it’s 100% worth the hike. Get off the beaten path with the Loma Del Pligue hike. Find the All Trails link here.

Length: 18 km

Elevation: 1,127 metres

Time: 7-8 hours (out & back)

This hike takes you to a great viewpoint of the city, through the forests of Patagonia, and over rocky terrain until you get to the top! The last part of the hike is where the adrenaline kicks in, you’re climbing up a relatively vertical mountain and it requires careful attention to foot placement and deals with some intense weather effects. We could feel the insane wind and it was getting pretty intense so we headed back down.

The worst (but also the most rewarding part) of this hike, was the fact that from SO far away you can see the mountain top with a tiny path heading up and you start to think… theres no way THATS where we’re going!? Turns out, it most definitely is. It takes you through terrain that feels like you’re in a completely different world! Plus you may even get the chance to see some wildlife – bizarre birds and strolling cows.

Cathedral Rock, Sedona, Arizona, USA

Sedona is THE ultimate hiking destination in Arizona. This short but stunning trail will require a decent amount of climbing so you’ll have to be pretty comfortable scaling some rocks – nothing too crazy but it definitely adds some fun and adrenaline to the hike!

Plus, the views are 100% worth it. You’ll have AMAZING views over the area which is full of red rocks and dramatic landscapes – it feels like another world. If you have the time and the energy, head up to the left side of the rocks to discover the area a bit more. Theres a little trail thats not super obvious that gives you another vantage point over the area without the crowds.

Make sure you look for the most up to date on the hike, during peak season and peak hiking days (thursday – sunday) there is a shuttle from Sedona so you’re not allowed to park in the parking lot. However you may be able to avoid this and get parking if you arrive just in time for sunset. Definitely do your research – Sedona hikes are SUPER popular (and it’s obvious why!). Here is the all trails link with the details!

Length: 2 km

Elevation: 226 metres
