Paracas: Our Stunning Sunrise Kayak With Dolphins
This one is mainly for the early birds, but honestly I love a good sleep in and still was SO happy I chose to wake up for this activity! We booked this tour through our tour operator for our 2 day trip (see more about our 2 day trip here), and it was originally advertised as kayaking with flamingos but you experience SO much more! This was our experience on our stunning sunrise kayak with dolphins in Paracas.
We woke up around 530 to make it to the meet up spot in town for a little after. At about 6am, we headed outside and took a few tuk-tuks with the rest of the group to the starting location. The way the tour runs is you take start from further outside the town and kayak back to the hostel you meet at, this way you only see the views once, and enjoy the sunrise.
By the time we made it to the starting location sunrise was in full swing and there was a pink hue casted over the desert landscapes in the distance. From this spot you can see flamingoes in the ocean, and SO many different species of birds. You actually don’t get super close to the flamingos as they fly away before you can really get close, but you do get to see them! The sunrise itself is such a stunning sight.
We got into the kayaks around 630 (we shared one kayak, but if you’re one person, they will give you a single kayak), and started making our way as a group over to the final point. The whole kayak portion of the tour took just over one hour. As you kayak by, you can see the desert and dramatic views on your left, the beautiful waterfront homes on your right, and birds pretty much all around you (you may not want to do this tour if birds are not your vibe). Once we got closer to the end location, we actually spotted seals AND dolphins! The dolphins came pretty close to us, and it was such an amazing sight being so quiet in the morning with the dolphins playing around in the ocean.
We finally reached the end of the tour around 730(ish) and dropped the kayaks off before getting our own ride back to the hotel. It was such a great way to get a light workout in and start the morning with amazing views!

Here are some tours with this exact experience:
- Sunrise Kayak Tour. Here is the exact tour we did and loved!
- Morning Kayak Tour. Here is another tour that’s for those that don’t want the super early wake up call, but want the same experience.
Tips
- Bring water! It’s not a super long tour, but not one you want to go thirsty for.
- Sunscreen. Yes it’s early in the morning, but the sun here is relentless and once it comes you you won’t want to be unprepared.
- You may get a little wet. Depending on the kayak set up, there’s a good chance water will be dripping and you may get wet. We wore our phones in our fanny packs and rain jackets to stop the drips from bothering us.
- Go at your own pace. You don’t need to be an expert kayaker to do this tour – it’s for all levels and the group adjusts to each others place.
