Seven Best Spots in Slovenia

Slovenia is full of beautiful areas and must-visit spots – even just driving from one location to another you’ll drive past some of the most beautiful countryside vista’s and scenic spots. Here are the seven best spots in Slovenia that we visited and LOVED.

If you love these spots and are visiting Slovenia, be sure to check out our one week itinerary that includes these spots (& more), exactly what we did (and what we would recommend to make it even better), restaurants & food locations, different hikes and adventure activities, hotels and spots to stay, and so much more!

1. Triglav National Park

Views on our two day hike through Triglav National Park

One of Slovenia’s best parks for hiking and climbing. One of the most popular hikes in this area being the Valley of the Seven Lakes hike. If you’re into alpine views, alpine lakes, meadows, cows, mountain animals, and fresh meals with views of the mountain tops, this park is for you!

2. Logar Valley

Driving through Logar Valley

This is Slovenia’s most stunning alpine valley that allows you to drive right through panoramic routes to the mountains that tower over you! On your route you’ll find beautiful hotels and cabins that offer farm-to-table meals. It’s the perfect base for more hiking if you don’t want to stay in the huts, and should be visited as a day trip even if you don’t plan on doing too much hiking.

3. Julian Alps

Scenic stops during our two day hike through the Julian Alps

Another of Slovenia’s popular parks, however this one is a bit quieter. Our favourite hike ever is found here, the Kamnik Saddle hike. It can be accessed from Logar Valley too, which makes combining adventures even easier. This park is full of mountain views, forested areas, mountain huts, and so much to be explored. We barely saw anyone in this park (or at the hut)!

4. Lake Bohinj

Shoreline views at Lake Bohinj

Less popular than Lake Bled and has better views (in our opinion). You are able to find a quiet spot along the water if you walk up the river far enough to enjoy the views of the lake with the hills surrounding it. There are great restaurants and towns nearby to keep you satisfied, and ofcourse an ice cream cone with lake views makes for the perfect late afternoon snack! Other activities include taking a picturesque boat across the lake, canoeing / kayaking / paddle boarding, or just going for a swim from the shore!

5. Vrsic Pass

The main view point at the top of the Vrsic Pass

The Vrsic Pass is the ultimate driving route for the best views. It’s a route that takes you up to new heights through tons of different switch-backs and spots to pull-over and admire the scenery. It’s a great route to combine lots of different areas along your Slovenia road-trip and is really worth it!

6. Soca Valley

Sunbathing and swimming spot along the Soca River

Soca Valley is the BEST place for adventure. The Soca river is known for being one of the most beautiful rivers in Europe and has so many different adventures available – whitewater rafting, canoeing, kayaking, canyoning, fishing, and more. Even just taking a drive by the river, finding a spot to sit down and have a picnic / swim, and relaxing by the fresh and cool water is the PERFECT afternoon.

7. Brda

Drinking wine & enjoying the vineyards in Brda

This is Slovenia’s wine region with vineyard views, rolling hills, and historic villages to walk around. Right on the borden with Italy, it makes sense that this spot basically makes you feel like you’re in another country – who knew Slovenia had such a great market for wine! This stunning area is best visited for a lazy afternoon of driving around the countryside, visiting the local towns, buying the local produce, and tasting wine at the local shop.

See You in Slovenia!

We hope you love Slovenia as much as we did. If you’re visiting, be sure to check out our other blog posts & also our one week itinerary on our thatch page for everything included above & so much more!
